The Helsinki University Library and the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies will co-organize an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the significance of the monograph in academic publishing. In the humanities and social sciences, the monograph is an important means of communicating and disseminating research. However, academic publishing is changing and the crisis of the monograph has become an issue in the discussions of the future of scholarly communication. Is the monograph still needed and viable? The seminar will focus on the role of the academic monograph and its survival and lasting value in the digital age. After this opening seminar, a monograph exhibition featuring work by past and present fellows of the HCAS will be opened on the ground floor of the Kaisa Library Building.
