We warmly welcome you to a seminar on participatory geographical research with young people hosted by the Geographical Society of Finland at Tieteiden talo, room 504, on Wednesday, May 8th, at 14.00–16.00. (Or in Zoom https://helsinki.zoom.us/j/66156736548).

The seminar starts with a presentation about ethical guidelines (GDPR etc.) by Karoliina Snell from Research Ethics Committee in the Humanities and Social and Behavioural Sciences. This will be followed by an introduction of two new Academy projects in geography: The moral drama of street gangs. A multidimensional approach to the gang problem in Finland (PI: Lotta Junnilainen) and Enchantment in young people’s technoscientific urban landscape: Encounters of difference and the opening of politics in the post-social city (PI: Noora Pyyry), concentrating on the ethical issues that designing and doing research with kids under 18 may bring forth. After the presentations, we will open the floor for more detailed discussion on research with young people, and the ethical questions that may arise in those encounters.

The plan is to continue the discussion at a nearby pub after the seminar.
